Physical optics modelling of millimetre-wave personnel scanners

چکیده
We describe the physical-optics modelling of a millimetre-wave imaging system intended to enable automated detection of threats hidden under clothes. This paper outlines the theoretical basis of the formation of millimetre-wave images and provides the model of the simulated imaging system. Results of simulated images are presented and the validation with real ones is carried out. Finally, we present a brief study of the potential materials to be classified in this system. 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Millimetre-Wave Personnel Scanners for Automated Weapon Detection
The ATRIUM project aims to the automatic detection of threats hidden under clothes using millimetre-wave imaging. We describe a simulator of realistic millimetre-wave images and a system for detecting metallic weapons automatically. The latter employs two stages, detection and tracking. We present a detector for metallic objects based on mixture models, and a target tracker based on particle fi...
متن کاملEffect of Nonlinear Phase Variation in Optical Millimetre Wave Radio over Fibre Systems
In this paper, we propose an optical millimetre wave radio-over-fibre (mm-wave RoF) system that uses a dual drive Mach Zehnder modulator (DD-MZM), which is biased at the maximum transmission biasing point, to generate an optical double sideband-suppressed carrier. The input to the DD-MZM are binary phase shift keying (BPSK), quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), 8-phase shift keying (8-PSK) and...
متن کاملUltralow-phase-noise millimetre-wave signal generator assisted with an electro-optics-modulator-based optical frequency comb
Low-noise millimetre-wave signals are valuable for digital sampling systems, arbitrary waveform generation for ultra-wideband communications, and coherent radar systems. However, the phase noise of widely used conventional signal generators (SGs) will increase as the millimetre-wave frequency increases. Our goal has been to improve commercially available SGs so that they provide a low-phase-noi...
متن کاملPerformance and Impairment Modelling for Hardware Components in Millimetre-wave Transceivers
This invited paper details some of the hardware modelling and impairment analysis carried out in the EU mmMAGIC project. The modelling work includes handset and Access Point antenna arrays, where specific millimeter-wave challenges are addressed. In power amplifier related analysis, statistical and behavioural modelling approaches are discussed. Phase Noise, regarded as a main impairment in mil...
متن کاملALMA Memo # 533 * Improving Accuracy of Superconducting Microstrip Line Modelling at Millimetre and Sub - Millimetre Waves
This paper presents a new model to calculate the characteristic impedance and wave propagation constant of a microstrip line made of a superconducting material. Modelling provides the only tool for designing superconducting microstrip based circuits because no direct measurements of such a line can be made at millimetre and sub-millimetre waves and at cryogenic temperature of 4 K with required ...
